Supported Internship Case Study: Sam
Doing the supported internship has had a huge impact on me and has made me so much more confident. Across my different placements, my managers have given me excellent feedback and have told me that I am kind, helpful and enthusiastic. It’s great to hear this and to know that I am making a difference.
I have also made so many new friends here. All the interns support each other and I really enjoy speaking to everyone at the beginning and end of each day.
In my last placement, I have been working as a packer and runner at Whipps Cross Hospital. This involves packing food and supplements in bags, putting them in the trollies and delivering to the wards. As well as this, I have to organise the supplements on the shelves and make sure everything is in the right place. I’ve loved this role and have learnt so many new skills, including how to communicate better and work well in a team.
I’ve learnt so much this year but, most importantly, I’ve realised that I need to give everything a try. Once the programme ends, I am determined to find a job at the hospital, preferably one which allows me to move around the building. I really do hope that I will be able to continue working here as I have enjoyed it so much and met some wonderful people.
I know that my job coaches will do their very best to help me find a job that suits me after I finish the programme. This programme really does mean a lot to me and I’m so grateful for everything it has given me so far.
